Phil Cannella: “So what should retirees, and what would you warn the everyday investor of in the next coming months? Let me ask you this. Do you think taxes are going up in this country?”
Alicia Munnell: “Of course!”
Phil Cannella: “Why so?”
Alicia Munnell: “They have to go up because our expenditures exceed our revenues at this point in time, and as we have an older population is going to become more expensive, and we have deficits and we’re going to have to eventually raise taxes to cover them, because I don’t think anybody would really want all the things cut that would have to be cut to solve the problem on the expenditure side, so taxes are going up”
